Description

Location: RER - Europe
This dataset represents the production of 1 kg of acetylene. Acetylene is the simplest hydrocarbon with a triple bond. It is a colorless gas with a faint garlic-like odor. Acetylene is mainly used in the processing of metals.
This dataset is based on theoretical data from process analysis. It should not be used for systems where acetylene plays an important role. Water consumption is approximated based on data from a large chemical factory (Gendorf 2016).

Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.

Technology

Partial oxidation of natural gas. The flue gas is assumed to be cleaned with electrofilters.
