The dataset can be used for a lithium-ion battery, e.g. for mechanical drive of an electrical vehicle. The battery pack (containing 14 singel cells) provides an electric power of 2.1 kWh and a voltage of 48 V. Data are based on measurements. For infrastructure, the ecoinvent dataset "electronic component production plant" is accounted. Transportation: the single cell are transported by ship from Peking to Amsterdam and by lorry within Europe (1000 km).
Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.

Technology

This dataset includes a method of producing a lithium ion battery. During the charge process, lithium ion move from the cathode (LiMn2O4) into the electrolyte (LiPF6 in ethylenecarbonate) through the micropores of the seperator into the anode (lithium ion intercalation). During the discharge of the battery the Li+-ions move back into the cathode. The battery pack (containing 14 singel cells) provides an electric power of 2.1 kWh and a voltage of 48V. Data are based measurements. The battery pack contains a battery management system.
