Description

Location: GLO - Global
This dataset was built as a weighted average of regional datasets of the same activityName. Weights are based on production volumes.
BR: production volume = 6.06e+08 kg/year, weight = 0.88
ZA: production volume = 8.27e+07 kg/year, weight = 0.12
Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.

Technology

Pasture is not regularly fertilized but is replanted every 20 years. Mineral salt is served as supplement feed for all cattle in troughs on the field. Besides pasture and mineral salt, no proteic supplement or other feed is served to cattle. Fat steers are sold for slaughter under 42 months. The dataset does not include pharmaceuticals, although typical production systems use them. Use of hormones for cattle raising is forbidden in Brazil.
