Description

Crude steel produced through the coal-based direct reduction and continuous casting process is primarily used for structural components, construction materials, manufacturing of machinery, and as a feedstock for further processing into various steel products. When utilizing this LCA data set, users should consider the technological specificity of the data based on coal direct reduction (Coal-DR) methodologies in China. The data must be scaled appropriately if applied to contexts outside of the demonstrated project. Assumptions from simulations, laboratory tests, and process modelling should be critically evaluated especially when comparing with other steel production routes or applying to geographical regions with different energy mixes, technological standards, or environmental regulations.
