Reference year: 2005 - 2005
Description

This unit process represents the production/service of 1kg of electric cobalt, MCLE process ,in Japan created from statistical information and other sources.
The system boundary of this process is "(raw material) -> hydrometallurgy/electrolysis -> (cobalt)."

Technology

Process for producing chlorine leaching-electrowinning method (MCLE method*) using nickel matte and nickel-cobalt mixed sulfide as raw materials. This process is developed by Sumitomo Metal Mining, and performed only in Niihama smelter. After raw materials (mixed sulfide and matte) go through cementation leaching - chlorine leaching and through cleaning solution, electrowinning.Separate the Co grounds in cleaning liquid phase, and separate Co and Ni by solvent extraction.Liquid containing Ni is returned to the electrolytic nickel.*MCLE method:Matte Chlorine Leach Electrowinning
