Reference year: 2011 - 2010
Description

This unit process represents the production/service of 1MJ of electricity by hydro power, Japan average, Japan ,in Japan created from statistical information and other sources.
The system boundary of this process is "(basic flow water power) -> water power energy for electrical service conversion to water power energy for electrical service."

Technology

This is a process of converting water taken from the river into hydraulic energy for electricity.
Effective head is set to 64.1m.This value is the average of effective head with the weight of water, of 1132 hydroelectric power plants (except for pumped storage power plant) of nine electric power companies.
Hydroelectric energy is calculated with formula below:
Quantity [kg] x 9.8 x effective head [m] = hydro energy [J]
Energy loss is not considered.
The quantity of river water is calculated at efficiency of 85.8% of the Japanese hydroelectric power (excluding pumped storage power generation).
