This dataset represents the production and dismantling of 1 m2 of greenhouse with plastic walls and roof and plastic tubes.
This double-layer air-inflated film greenhouse is made of a structure of plastic pipes, covered with a double EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) copolymer sheet. The plastic cover must be replaced every 4 years. The greenhouse structure lifetime is typically 25 years. It comprises of a heating system and fume condenser. Such greenhouses represent recent technology (after 2002) and typically cover large surfaces (7 ha in average). A network of polypropylene pipes is used to deliver heat (hot water at 50-80°C), on the ground (thermo-siphon) and at the height of the plants (growth pipes). A boiler is used to store hot water. CO2 from combustion is recovered and injected again into the greenhouse as to increase photosynthesis. The greenhouse also includes a fertigation system made of a network of polyethylene pipes. Other auxiliary facilities are also considered.
Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.
