Description

Location: CH - Switzerland
This dataset represents an example of a typical agricultural building for cattle. The module includes a cubicle house for dairy cows and rearing to 6 months with the fittings, slurry store, dried roughage store, exercise yard and milking parlour. Size: 22 LU. Lifetime of the building is 50 years. The Functional Unit is one livestock unit (LU) place during entire service life.
Obs: The following limitation on the use of individual modules should be noted: to obtain realistic values when applying the modules, building sizes should not differ too widely from the sizes on which the module calcula-tions were based. An acceptable approximation can be achieved for building sizes within a range of about half to twice the value of the calculated size of the modules. A wider difference would not be reasonable, since the type of construction would be too different from the calculated module.
[The full documentation of this dataset was originally provided in the corresponding ecoinvent report from the Swiss Centre for Life Cycle Inventories, which is accessible for free to guests and users of ecoinvent version 2 (https://www.ecoinvent.org/login-databases.html). The dataset may subsequently have been subjected to central changes to the database, as described in the respective change report for each new release.]
Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.

Technology

Based on selected examples of this type of housing and buildings commonly found in Switzerland in the year 2000; but not conform to an “average Swiss building style”.
