Description

Livestock and poultry feed processing mainly consumes electricity and coal. Users should note that this data is specific to the feed processing stage of layer hens and should not be generalized to other types of livestock and poultry feed processing. Attention must be paid to the regional scope and time frame of the data (2014-2015) as results may differ in other regions or time periods. The energy sources (electricity and coal) and specific farms investigated are integral to data interpretation. Exclusion of impacts from upstream or downstream processes such as feed ingredient production or egg processing is necessary for accurate lifecycle assessment of the feed processing stage alone.

Technology

In this paper, the life cycle of livestock and poultry farming is divided into six stages: feed crop planting, feed processing, livestock and poultry raising, manure treatment, slaughter and transportation. The specific life cycle process of livestock and poultry breeding is shown in Figure 2-1. Due to the lack of some data and the limitations of basic conditions, the production, transportation and use of pesticides, mulch and feed additives have not been analyzed, and the environmental impact caused by other related infrastructure construction, transport production and labor costs is no longer considered.
