Description

The location of the raw milk production is dairy farms, where the main consumptions are fodder, electricity, and diesel. When applying this LCA data, users must consider the specific regional context (e.g., Sichuan, China) as environmental impacts may vary by location. This data set relies on a simplified version of the life cycle impact assessment which uses specific indicators. It is advised to update emission factors and methodological approaches to ensure relevance and accuracy. Additionally, users should note the consumption of fodder, electricity, and diesel in the production phase and apply appropriate CO2 emission coefficients and electricity emission factors sourced from Hospido et al. (2003) and the NDRC (2014). Pay attention to the specific treatment of end-of-life waste (e.g., milk packaging) as it is transported to a landfill for disposal.

Technology

This study only focused on processes that directly contributed to pure milk production, that is, only the effects of energy and material input and carbon emissions, as shown in FigureĀ 1. The system boundary of milk life cycle is thus simplified and divided into four stages, namely, raw milk production, dairy product processing, product transportation and packaging waste disposal.
