Description

Reference product: electricity, medium voltage [kWh]
Location: DE - Germany
This dataset describes the electricity available on the medium voltage level in Germany for year 2014. This is done by showing the transmission of 1kWh electricity at medium voltage.
The shares of electricity technologies on this market are valid for the year 2016. They have been calculated by the data provider and don't necessarily correspond with the production volumes entered in the undefined datasets of the different electricity producers. The shares have been calculated based on statistics from 2016: IEA World Energy Statistics and Balances. OECD iLibrary, eISSN: 1683-4240, DOI: 10.1787/enestats-data-en and ENTSO-E: Physical Energy & Power Flows, https://www.entsoe.eu/data/power-stats/physical-flows/. Further information can be found in a report available on ecoQuery, section 'Files'.
[This dataset has been generated using the system model "Allocation, cut-off by classification". A system model describes how activity datasets are linked to form product systems. The allocation cut-off system model subdivides multi-product activities by allocation, based on a physical properties, economic, mass or other properties. By-products of waste treatment processes are cut-off, as are all by-products classified as recyclable. Markets in this model include all activities in proportion to their current production volume.
Version 3 of the ecoinvent database offers three system models to choose from. For more information, please visit: https://www.ecoinvent.org/database/system-models-in-ecoinvent-3/system-…)]

Technology

Average technology used to transmit and distribute electricity. Includes underground and overhead lines, as well as air-, vacuum- and SF6-insulated high-to-medium voltage switching stations. Electricity production according to related technology datasets.
Definition of the voltage levels:
- High voltage level above 24 kV (large scale industry)
- Medium voltage level between 1 kV and 24 kV (medium to small scale industry, service sector
and public buildings)
- Low voltage level below 1 kV (Households)
This dataset represents a market activity in the ecoinvent database. A market activity is an activity that does not transform inputs, but simply transfers a specific intermediate exchange (i.e. products, including wastes and by-products) from supplying transforming activities to other transforming activities that demand this intermediate exchange as an input, e.g. from glycerine at the supplier to glycerine at the consumer. A market dataset collects all activities with the same reference product in a certain geographical region. Furthermore, it typically includes average transport requirements for that product within the geography in question, as well as inputs of the product itself to cover any losses in trade and transport. In other words, market activities are generally intended to represent consumption mixes of a given product in a certain geographical region.
