Description

This unit process represents the production/service of 1kg of mixed Ni-CO sulfide from laterite ,in Philippines created from statistical information and other sources.
The system boundary of this process is "(laterite ore) -> mining -> permeation."

Technology

Production of mixed sulfide using laterite ore of thePhilippines (Coral Bay mine) as a raw material.Laterite is mined in open-pit and its quality is as low as Ni 1.26%, but it contains about 1% of Co and is isolated as sulfides.Ores are pulverized and slurried by pre-treatment, and Ni and Co are leached by high pressure leaching with sulfuric acid using an autoclave (HPAL method).Fe can be suppressed to less than 3% dissolution rate by controlling the redox potential.Via neutralization and dezincification process, it is precipitated as sufide by hydrogen sulfide. It has been produced from 2005, and is smelted as electrolytic nickel in Sumitomo Metal Minig Niihama smelter.
