Description

Based on the data from China, the inventories on gravity thickening and agricultural use processes (i.e., electricity consumption, flocculants, wastewater disposal, and heavy metal emissions) are obtained from the best available techniques directive of sewage sludge treatment in China. These data include those directly collected from 140 wastewater treatment plants in China. When utilizing this data set for life cycle assessment, ensure that the scope of your analysis includes the management of one ton of dry sludge (DS) as the functional unit. Consider any regional regulations and impacts on soil health and agricultural productivity. The data should account for all stages of sludge processing, from treatment to agricultural application, including energy and chemical inputs. Pay attention to potential environmental impacts such as emissions and nutrient runoff in your assessment.

Technology

The sludge treatment and disposal steps are gravity thicking, anaerobic digestion, dewatering, and agricultural use.
