This dataset describes the global production of electricity from natural gas for a compressor station in 2010. A part of the natural gas transported by pipeline is used in gas turbines located in compressor stations (along the pipeline route) to produce electricity that compress the gas and enable its transport. The electricity generated in by this gas turbine is only used by the corresponding natural market activity (through a direct link), so it does not contribute to the electricity market.
The dataset is an adaptation of the dataset describing the average burning of gas for a compressor station in Germany in 1990-2000 period.
Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.
