Description

Natural gas extraction: Natural gas used as feedstock for the Bang Pakong power plant is mainly extracted from the Bongkot mine in the Gulf of Thailand and controlled by PTT Exploration and Production Co. Ltd. (PTT Plc.). This study focuses on the main natural gas production at the Bongkot site This LCA study aims to evaluate the environmental emissions for each stage of the life cycle starting from natural gas extraction to the delivery of electricity, offering material balance and environmental data for the complete cycle including extraction, separation, power generation, and transportation. Users should ensure that data used reflects the actual process and technologies employed at the Bongkot site. Secondary data sources should be used with caution, ensuring they are relevant and up-to-date. The standardized environmental flow data is mapped against the production of 1 MWh of electricity to allow for comparative analysis and should be applied in that context.

Technology

The purpose of this LCA study is to determine the environmental emissions from each process of natural gas power generation from cradle to gate, and to compare the environmental impact of emissions released from the power generation process of two different power plant technologies (i.e. combined cycle and thermoelectric). The main scope of this study is to provide material balance and environmental information for all life cycle stages (natural gas extraction, crude oil extraction, natural gas separation plant, power plant and transportation). All processes of natural gas power plants are standardized to 1 MWh of power provided by the power plant.
