Description

In hydrometallurgy the materials in LIBs are selectively dissolved by chemical solvents and the metal elements are separated in the leachate. The used NCM 622 batteries are 100% collected and recycled by hydrometallurgical methods to feed into NCM 622 production loop and thus avoid the production of primary materials, such as steel, aluminum, polypropylene and copper. When utilizing this data set related to the NCM 622 battery recycling process, it is essential to contextually include this recycling loop in Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) for electric vehicles where the functional unit is 1 kWh of the NCM 622 battery pack. Users should note that data derives from field research, and assumptions about the purity of recovered materials and the efficiency of the recycling process should be carefully considered. It is also important to consider the exclusion of primary material production impacts where applicable.
