Description

Location: GLO - Global
This activity is, so far, only significant for the Québec region. The GLO dataset hence is only a copy of the Québec dataset, with the same production volumes. No "Rest of the World" dataset would be calculated out of this activity for that reason. The uncertainty has been adjusted accordingly. It represents the Quebec production of uncoated woodfree paper with 50% recycled content in a non-integrated mill, including paper production and converting into sheets, energy production on-site (natural gas, heavy fuel oil and biobas combustion) and internal waste water treatment. The packaging in which the paper is sold is not included, but wrapping energy is included.
Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.

Technology

Fine papers have a wide range of size, finish and basis weight. To be representative of all the manufacturing possibilities, a weighted average of the papers recipes and used machines have been used.
