Hydroxyacetonitrile is a precursor in the synthesis of indigo dye, essential in the textile industry. This chemical's production is a significant step in the clean manufacturing process developed by Taifeng Taixing Chemical Company. The company has optimized the technology to produce hydroxyacetonitrile, integral to the indigo production capacity of 6,000 tons/year. The compound is generated through a reaction between formaldehyde and crude hydrocyanic acid, subsequently contributing to a cleaner production pathway for indigo through further chemical synthesis steps. When utilizing this dataset for Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), consider the specific context of hydroxyacetonitrile application in indigo dye production. Account for the process durations (7200 hours annually), the advances in clean production technology, and the material balance concerning the incorporation of recycling and environmental impact mitigation. Users should model the use phase in commercial indigo synthesis and assess energy consumption and emissions based on the technological upgrades and optimizations. This data should not be used for LCA without considering the limitations of the boundary of this research. Note that partial production data is available for extraction and use.
