The flotation unit within the heavy-media separation - flotation combined process is employed for the reclamation of 1 kg of tungsten concentrate (containing 21%±2% WO3) as part of the Life Cycle Inventory results. This tungsten concentrate is primarily used in the manufacturing of hard metal tools, mill products for lighting and the electric industry, and in alloying agents for the production of superalloys, steel, and magnetic materials. When utilizing this LCI dataset, attention should be paid to the technological scope of the flotation process as it pertains to heavy-media separation. Users should account for the potential variability in tungsten concentrate quality (WO3 content) and the efficiency of the reclamation process in their models. Users must consider the geographical and technological representativeness of the data when applying it to specific situations, taking into consideration the changes in technology and recovery rates over time. The exclusion or inclusion of downstream processing and recycling phases needs to be justified based on the goal and scope of the specific Life Cycle Assessment study.
