This dataset describes the production of sintered ore, which is commonly used as an input for blast furnaces in the steel manufacturing process, specifically in the basic oxygen furnace (BF-BOF) pathway. The sintering process agglomerates iron ore fines into a larger, cohesive mass suitable for efficient smelting in a blast furnace. This data is relevant for the production of sintered ore in large-scale integrated steel plants in China that also include coking and electric arc furnace (EAF) operations. When utilizing this dataset in a Life Cycle Assessment, it is essential to ensure that it is applied exclusively to the production of sintered ore within the context of the BF-BOF pathway as it includes specific technological and processing characteristics of large-scale integrated steel plants with attached coking and EAF plants in China. Considerations of regional production differences, technological applicability, and updating the data to reflect changes in technology or efficiency improvements over time should be made. Inclusion or exclusion of data regarding recycling of materials should be in accordance with the goal and scope of the LCA study.
