This dataset represents the production of 1 kg of sodium hydrogen sulfite from sulfur dioxide in Europe. Sodium hydrogen sulfite (NaHSO3) is not known in the solid state. By concentrating an aqueous solution, solid sodium disulfite crystallizes. Sodium hydrogen sulfite is oxidized in air. It is produced by reaction of sodium hydroxide with sulfur dioxide according to the following reaction:
NaOH + SO2 → NaHSO3
This dataset is based on stoechiometric calculations as well as approximations based on data from a large chemical factory (Gendorf 2016).
