Description

Location: GLO - Global
This dataset represents the harrowing operation in one hectare (ha). This tillage operation is mainly performed to break up the surface of the soil and to incorporate the limestone and gypsum. Functional Unit (FU) is one hectare of tillage harrowing. The operation time is about 1.38 hours per ha (62.5% of this time is effectively worked, discounting time for maintenance, waiting in the field and re-allocations between the plots).
Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.

Technology

This activity is performed with a tractor (power 220 hp; weight 9450 kg) plus a disc harrow implement (18 discs of diameter 32''; weight 2862 kg). Life spam of the tractor is considered as 13250 operating hours and of the implement as 8000 operating hours. Machinery used, fuel consumption and operation efficiencies were based on data from sugarcane mills in Brazil, expert's informations and unpublished data.
