Description

Location: GLO - Global
This dataset represents the activity of waste disposal of waste polystyrene in uncontrolled, open burning. Recommended use of this dataset: For PS, which goes to disposal as part of unmanaged communal waste mixture. For Expanded PS (EPS) use other dataset.Waste composition (wet, in ppm): upper heating value 38.88 MJ/kg; lower heating value 38.67 MJ/kg; H2O 2000; O 38852; H 78046; C 868490; S 678.75; N 1942.6; P n.a.; B n.a.; Cl 1132.1; Br 882.12; F 14.25; I n.a.; Ag n.a.; As 1.8418; Ba 180.79; Cd 23.336; Co 30.622; Cr 39.613; Cu 107.56; Hg 0.82311; Mn 77.469; Mo n.a.; Ni 19.968; Pb 14.935; Sb 41.65; Se 2.0357; Sn 25.403; V 279.32; Zn 834.61; Be 0.48468; Sc n.a.; Sr 85.789; Ti 969.36; Tl 0.38774; W n.a.; Si n.a.; Fe 3611.5; Ca n.a.; Al 193.87; K n.a.; Mg n.a.; Na 1420.6; . Share of carbon in waste that is biogenic 0%. // Recycling rates for metallic iron = 0% for metallic aluminium = 0% for metallic copper = 0% . A mass of 0.0272kg residues are left on ground.
Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.

Technology

This is an inventory for open burning of solid waste. Informal or uncontrolled burning. No flue gas treatment. Suitable for informal recycling (e.g. burning of e-waste). Based on Municipal waste incineration without any pollution control. Residues (minus any actually recycled metals) are left on site. Assumption of share of thermal NOx to total NOx in average waste burning process is 30%. Contribution from thermal NOx is 810mg per kg waste. Recycling rates for metallic iron = 0% for metallic aluminium = 0% for metallic copper = 0% .
