Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.


This is an inventory for an open, uncontrolled waste dump for municipal solid waste. Ultimate average landfill height is 7 meters. Operation phase duration is 15 years.Percentage of landfill gas directly emitted is 100w%. A Methane Correction Factor (MCF) for landfill air emissions of 0.7057 is employed.
Leachate of the landfill is not treated. Leachate flow is upward to the surface due to net negative infiltration. No leachate treatment can be performed. Based on average waste composition and climate data the end of carbonate phase is estimated to be reached 3171 years after waste deposition. Arid conditions at this location prompt formation of evaporites from landfill contents which are partially eroded by wind. It is assumed that 10% of these evaporites are eroded by wind and airborne. Initial decay in the first 100 years of this waste results in a wind erosion rate corresponding to 4.266 g/m2.year and long-term decay corresponds to wind erosion of 11.63 g/m2.year.
