According to the requirements of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( IPCC ) revised guidelines in 1996, the methane emission from underground mining, open-pit mining and post-mining activities in China was estimated. After deducting the use of methane in methane extraction, the amount of methane discharged into the atmosphere by coal mines was obtained. Users should employ the provided data with caution, ensuring its application is limited to the methodological and geographical context specified, namely, methane emissions from underground coal mining in central-south China during 1994. When integrating this data into broader life cycle assessments, users must account for temporal and regional limitations. The IPCC Guidelines revised methodology, specifically the use of the average emission coefficient method, should be adhered to when calculating emissions. Users should also note the absence of subsequent operational or post-operational data, as the study concentrates on the emission factors relevant to the 1994 and 2000 time frame.
