According to the requirements of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ( IPCC ) revised guidelines in 1996, the methane emission from underground mining, open-pit mining and post-mining activities in China was estimated. After deducting the use of methane in methane extraction, the amount of methane discharged into the atmosphere by coal mines was obtained. When utilizing this data set for Life Cycle Assessment or other environmental impact analyses, users must consider that the methane emission figures are specific to the underground coal mining process of the 'North China' region in 1994. To maintain accuracy, users should not extrapolate these figures to other regions or time periods without proper justification. Users should also consider additional factors such as technological advancements and changes in mining practices that may have happened since 1994, which could affect methane emissions. Appropriate adjustments based on current IPCC guidelines should be made if applying this data to modern scenarios.
