Location: ZA - South Africa
This dataset represents the production of 1 kg of wheat flour for human consumption, and secondary products of wheat bran and wheat screenings for animal feed production from dry milling practices in South Africa. The wheat flour represents all milled products intended for human consumption i.e. cake flour, self-raising flour, white bread flour, brown bread flour, whole wheat meal, and semolina. Flours and meals are typically used for baking bread and other baked goods, while semolina the coarse, purified wheat middlings of durum wheat is used mainly in the making of pasta and couscous. The module includes the receiving of wheat and processing thereof through multiple grinding and sieving steps. Activities that have been considered in this dataset are the inputs of wheat, water, and electricity.

Undefined unit processes (UPRs) are the unlinked, multi-product activity datasets that form the basis for all of the system models available in the ecoinvent database. This is the way the datasets are obtained and entered into the database by the data providers. These activity datasets are useful for investigating the environmental impacts of a specific activity (gate-to-gate), without regard to its upstream or downstream impacts.
